Katheryn
Scott - Mrs. Iowa-America 2006
Katie
Scott, a physician, is a recent graduate of Des Moines University
Medical School. Katie garnered the title of Mrs. Iowa-America,
on June 10, 2006. At the Mrs. America Pageant held in September
2006, she was honored by being selected as a "Top Ten"
finalist being amongst the most accomplished and beautiful married
women in America.
Katie roomed
with Mrs. Wisconsin, Shannon Martin, at the national Mrs. America
Pageant held in beautiful Tucson, Arizona. The 15-day pageant
was an amazing experience. The Mrs. America DVD may be ordered
at www.mrsamerica.com or can be viewed throughout the year on
the Women's Entertainment Network.
Katie and
her husband, Bill, also a physician, celebrated their first wedding
anniversary in August.
She plans
to do her residency in the Des Moines area specializing in Family
Practice. In addition, Katie works part-time as a personal assistant
to Pageantry Magazine's Cosmetic Surgeon, Dr. Ronald Bergman,
and is active in many national medical organizations. She was
the 2002 Honor Graduate from Iowa State University, where she
earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology.
As a volunteer
advocate for children, Katie works with Action for Healthy Kids.
(AFHK) which is the nation's only non-profit organization dedicated
to helping the epidemic of childhood obesity. AFHK promotes healthy
food choices, nutritional education, and an active lifestyle.
AFHK has recently teamed up with Professional Athlete's Commission
and Get Fit! to truly address both the nutritional and exercise
portions of a healthy lifestyle. Katie frequently speaks to children
of all ages on how making good decisions at a young age can be
beneficial throughout ones lifetime. Her unique perspective as
a physician is a great asset in explaining how food choices and
exercise really can make a difference.
In addition
to Katie's work with Action for Healthy Kids, she is also involved
in supporting the National Anthem Project and the Susan G. Komen
Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation. Recently, Katie was able to
be involved in not only Race for the Cure, but also Drive for
the Cure. Both activities are well-promoted in the state of Iowa
and are instrumental in increasing local awareness and raising
money for ground-breaking breast cancer research.
In their spare
time, Katie and Bill enjoy spending time with their puppies, family,
and friends, traveling, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, staying
active in the community , and pursuing lifelong learning. They
strive to maintain a balanced lifestyle that includes a commitment
to family, community, fitness, and spirituality.
