Shannon
Martin - Mrs. Wisconsin-America 2006
On
June 10, 2006, Shannon Martin of Verona, Wisconsin was selected
as Mrs. Wisconsin-America, alongside the newly-crowned Mrs. Minnesota-America
and Mrs. Iowa-America. This was Shannon's third attempt at the
title. Needless to say, she was thrilled when her name was finally
called as the winner!
Shannon studied
fashion merchandising and design in college. However, she found
her professional niche in property management where she was responsible
for 588 apartments with eleven staff members and more than 1,400
residents. In 1996, she was the recipient of the Manager of the
Year award for producing the most net operating income. Over the
years, Shannon has earned several professional awards, but has
found her greatest success in being a stay-at-home mom.
In her spare
time, she is her Neighborhood Homeowners Association's treasurer,
a member of "M.O.M.S." (Mothers of Multiples) which
is an outreach program for families with multiple births, and
March of Dimes volunteer, (since the premature birth of her twins).
Shannon is a skin cancer survivor and is involved in speaking
to the public about the dangerous effects of the sun. she hopes
to increase awareness and urges others to get annual screenings,
as early detection is the best prevention. Shannon also maintains
her alumni active status in her college sorority, Kapa Alpha Theta,
which is philanthropic to the CASA organization benefiting children.
Shannon has
always loved dancing and performing. She has danced with stage
productions and presently models and is a commercial actress.
Her most thrilling performance memory was being selected as a
part of an NFL cheerleading squad from over 800 entrants and being
given the opportunity to perform in front of 60,000 people every
Sunday.
Shannon and
her husband, Greg have been married for 10 years and have three
children including eight year-old Grant and four year-old twins,
Jonathan and Ava. Shannon and her family enjoy car day trips and
movie night cuddled on the couch. In addition, Shannon enjoys
inventing new products, interior design, clothing re-design and
ballroom dancing.
She balances
her life with the attitude that family comes first she keeps an
open mind and heart and always give thanks to God. Her personal
motto is: "Never drive faster than you guardian angel can
